Paul Cezanne's exhibition is held in Yokohama museum. I wanna go to see that. I don't know exactly about him, so I put his profile on.Paul Cézanne was a French artist and Post--Impressionist painter whose work laid the foundations of the transition from the 19th century conception of artistic endeavour to a new and radically different world of art in the 20th century. Cézanne can be said to form the bridge between late 19th century Impressionism and the early 20th century's new line of artistic enquiry, Cubism. The line attributed to both Matisse and Picasso that Cézanne "is the father of us all" cannot be easily dismissed.
Cézanne's work demonstrates a mastery of design, colour, composition and draftsmanship. His often repetitive, sensitive and exploratory brushstrokes are highly characteristic and clearly recognizable. He used planes of colour and small brushstrokes that build up to form complex fields, at once both a direct expression of the sensations of the observing eye and an abstraction from observed nature. The paintings convey Cézanne's intense study of his subjects, a searching gaze and a dogged struggle to deal with the complexity of human visual perception.
After Cézanne died in 1906, his paintings were exhibited in Paris in a large scale museum-like retrospective in September 1907. The 1907 Cézanne retrospective at the Salon d'Automne greatly impacted the direction that the avant-garde in Paris took, lending credence to his position as one of the most influential artists of the 19th century and to the advent of Cubism.
Cézanne's explorations of geometric simplification and optical phenomena inspired Picasso, Braque, Gris, and others to experiment with ever more complex multiple views of the same subject, and, eventually to the fracturing of form. Cézanne thus sparked one of the most revolutionary areas of artistic enquiry of the 20th Century, one which was to affect profoundly the development of modern art.

The end of the IE 3!!
Time goes so fast! Today, all the class including IE of 1st grade have finished. I was really excited my IE class. All of the people in this class were really kind and interesting★ It was hard to attend all of them: listening, writing, and core, but I wish all of us get unit and meet at IE seminar!! I have to try hard in 2nd grade to make up for units! so.. thank you very much! I'll see yours soon again★ Good luck for your exam!!
Spring Vacation
Spring vacation will coming soon after the term of tests! Do you have any plans or something? Actually, I have no idea how to spend 2 months of vacation! We have much more holidays in college than high school or junior high. Also we don't have homeworks!! That's really good for me★ I have to find second part time job..., because I will be tired of teaching at same place..... I was thinking about going trip or studying abroad for foreign country, but the problem is weather... It will be raining this time of the year in many places. So, I had better going somewhere in summer vacation.

lunch
For today's luch we ate Ravioli★ Do you know that? The word ravioli is reminiscent of the Italian verb ravvolgere ("to wrap"). It's the Italian food broiled pucking cheese, vegetables and some little meet into triangular pasta. Besides we eat that by putting tomato sauce or cream one. I think it's similar to Japanese gyoza. It's really simple, but once you eat I'm sure you will be hooked!!!
Examination
It's the day of the test,,, yes, "センター試験" was held yesterday and today! It has already passed a year since I took this test. oh... good old. Because I was in a high school which has attached college, and I was terrible at Japanese history and Japanese; means just only English.., I hesitated whether I take an exam for other college or not. However, I've never took such study exam and wanted to go the college which has attractive lectures, I decided to take that. It was much harder than I think, because studying and memoryzing meaningless words over and over made me sick. So in winter I didn't study almost all of the day. Therefore I decided to study thoroughly just English in around January..... This sounds like ridiculous....! Anyway I'm glad to enter this college. I hope candidates get good score on this test★
Hotel Lunch★
Yesterday, I went to hotel near my house to eat lunch with my family. We often eat out, but they serve good lunches here. We ate Japanese meat lunch and it includes relish, salad, miso soup, rice and cake and tea! So, we were really satisfied not only nice foods but also the beatiful scene which can be seen from this restaurant. I'm really weak in the word "with desert".. Types of Japanese Fashion
“Fashion is styles of dress that are popular in a culture at any given time.” said Wikipedia. A number of cities are recognized as global fashion centers and are known for their fashion weeks, where designers exhibit their new clothing collections to audiences. Paris, Milan, New York, London, and Tokyo represent these cities. Nowadays, people often hear the words Cool Japan. This is a phenomenon of which Japanese animation, comics and fashion are evaluated high in foreign countries. Therefore, Japanese fashion has been receiving worldwide attention recently. Broadly speaking, Japanese fashion can be classified on the basis of the style.
The first type is called Onei-kei which is an elegant style. This type is often seen in Japanese college students and young office workers. Wikipedia said the word Onei-kei was widely accepted in about 2000, when one of the Japanese famous fashion magazines suggested coquettish and elegant style. After that Onei-kei got a high popularity in Kobe and Nagoya and soon in Tokyo. People in this style often have curly hair and wear long boots or mules and miniskirts or tight skirts which are based on conservative fashion. Onei-kei has absolute popularity even now, because it makes girls look feminine and beautiful.
Another type is called Mode-kei which is individual style. The word mode originally meant the same as fashion. Mode-kei is also called High-fashion-kei, because of the magazine’s name which deals with Mode-kei fashion. This type of clothes is really simple. People often wear clothes of black, white, or monotone color. They emphasize silhouettes more than items like accessories and so on. It is said that Mode-kei became popular because of the hit with Japanese designer brands like Yohji Yamamoto and Rei Kawakubo in the 1980’s.
The last type is called Street-kei which is a casual style. There have been very many Street-kei magazines lately, which mean that it has a high popularity among young people. Book Report
BOOK REPORT CHIE TSUCHIYA
1) MLA CITATION
Fitzgerald, Scott. The Great Gatsby. London: PENGUIN BOOKS, 1950
2) PLOT
The story is told by a young man, Nick Caraways who moved from west to east, and unfolds focusing mainly on Gatsby and Daisy. Gatsby is a man of around 30. He became rich from poor condition and was holding gorgeous party every weekend at his gorgeous house at West Egg. For this party, he drove guests by Rolls-Royce or Station Wagon, and on Monday, his 8 servants cleaned up the mess.
There was a house of Tom and Daisy at East Egg. Gatsby loved Daisy once and still loves her. He met Daisy 5 years ago and they loved each other, but when Gatsby went to the front and was demobilized from France, she got married to rich man, Tom. However, they were in discord each other.
Gatsby who couldn’t reconcile his heart to Daisy, tried hard to be rich enough to erect mansion and hold fancy party, waiting his chance to meet her. Nick was living next to his house and was Daisy’s cousin. So he was asked to act as a go-between for Gatsby and Daisy.
His dream that meet Daisy again as an equal position has come true and it seemed everything work, but the love was fragile and frail. Their reunion was actually the end of the dream and the beginning of the tragedy for him.
Eventually romantic dream of Gatsby and realistic calculation of Daisy were exclusive. Finally he was shot by misunderstanding.
Contrastive to that brilliant party, few people including Nick came to his funeral. Even Daisy didn’t come.
Gatsby has a strong will. He thinks it’s not difficult to become rich only to marry the one he loves and makes up for the blank of 5 years. His heart is almost occupied by Daisy and that made no one to come in. That’s why he has solitary aura.
While the narrator, Nick Caraways was told by his father when he was young that “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that al the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” Because of that he is a man of control of himself. However, he was gradually in favor of Gatsby who is too supple sometimes. I think that Nick was an only true friend for Gatsby.
After reading this book I felt really empty. Gatsby was picturing Daisy as a princess living in a palace or perfect girl while five years, but it was different figure from actual Daisy. Besides although it’s old story, it has universality which lead to our generation and I was really impressed.
3) 7 LITERARY TERMS
1. Setting: The time is set in the 1920’s, when World War Ⅰ was over. The location is in America.
2. Point of view: the story is told from first person.
3. Conflict: Man versus himself. Gatsby has been waiting for his girlfriend for 5 years without any clue.
4. Climax: It suddenly happened, soon after Myrtle Wilson, who is George Wilson’s wife and Tom Buchanan’s mistress dyed by car accident. Tom told George wrong idea that Gatsby hit her. Finally, George shot Gatsby before committing suicide.
5. Symbol: His big and gorgeous house expresses his love for Daisy. By erecting such house and opening luxurious party every day, he thought Daisy would come back.
6. Irony: While Gatsby went to the front, Daisy got married to rich man, Tom. However, she was tired of being furniture of gorgeous life with him and wanted free love. Yet Gatsby tried hart to be rich and he did, because he knew her marriage and thought the only way to bring her back would be money.
7. Theme: We cannot live just by passion or love and confidence in oneself.
4) REFLECTING ON THE STORY
It was really difficult to read, so I couldn’t understand some points. Especially when Daisy visited Gatsby’s mansion first and saw his new shirts, she cried saying “They’re such beautiful shirts, it makes me sad because I’ve never seen such-such beautiful shirts before.” I have no idea why she cried and said such words.
We usually control ourselves like Nick, but Gatsby devoted himself to Daisy. I can’t understand such powerful and pure passion, but I thought it’s really romantic to be loved by such person.
I learned a lot from this story. At first I couldn’t figure out what Nick’s father meant in “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that al the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” as written in plot. However, after reading I could figure out. His father knew that living life as usual; means naturally is not as easy as one think. Besides I liked the last sentence: “… so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” which left sorrowful reverberation. I think that it’s not only symbolizing Nick’s unexpected life without Gatsby but also unseen future of the 20 century, after the WWⅠ.

Do you like cakes? Of course I like it! I rarely see person who don't like sweets... Anyway I bought these cakes at Kikuya(喜久屋). This cake shop has long history(from1924!!)and has been really popular especially for lemon cake and lamb ball. The head store is in Motomachi and we can eat or drink tea there, but actually I bought at Sogo today. We've eaten in a split second!! I recommend you to eat here's cake once.★

Do you know him? He is a Wolof Senegalese-American hip hop and R&B singer songwriter and record producer, AKON. He got Grammy Award nomination for the single "Smack That". He is well known for singing hooks and has over 155 guest appearances and 23 Billboard Hot 100 songs to his credit. He is also the first solo artist to accomplish the feat of holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. And, this is his third album, FREEDOM. I really recommend this new album. Because I bought Japanese version with lyrics, I'll put one of those of this album:"FREEDOM"

I will have exam of French on January 8th. However, I haven't studied at all.. because I was busy on my part time job and... shopping.......and tomorrow I have part time job again... I know these are just excuse but I wanna help.....!!! I must study the day after tomorrow.. means the day before the test.... if I didn't, I would be failed. I have to slip out of the mood of new year holidays.............

Did you enjoy new year holidays?! On the first day of the year, I ate ozoni (dictionary sais rice cakes boiled with vegetables) and Japanese traditional new year's foods and.... chocolate cake of Tops.... I don't know why... but my mother bought it on new year's eve. Anyway I like Tops's chocolate cake the best. On the second day, after eating, I went to Yokohama with my family for shopping and then China town for lunch. Of course there were so many people everywhere. I met my friends who was in a same member of Kendo club in junior high school at Yokohama vivre! I was amazed to see her hair colour...it's difficult to express in short words..! I used much money for clothes. Now my room is filled with new clothes again... so I have to clean again!!

Recently, I often see clutch bags at many shops and I really like it. I went to shopping to Yokohama with my high school friends today, because I had my part time job only in the morning! It was long time since we met last that we talked about college life, part time job, our trip... etc.. for a long time. Of course we also enjoyed shopping. I found nice silver clutch bag there(upper one) and I bought it★ I may use it in summer a lot! The other one(under one) is clutch which I bought last year, and much smaller than upper one. After that we had a dinner at harvest which is Japanese buffet style restaurant. As it's always for us, we ate too much.... Anyway we enjoyed very much! I hope we meet again soon!X'mas★ 12/25
Today, I had a X'mas party with my family. Therefore, we went to buy cakes in the morning! However, because it's 25th, almost all of them were sold out...... so we moved another shop and finally got them...!! Also I cooked paella with my mother for dinner. They were really delicious and we had a good time today★
